Svacchanda Yoga: Level 1-2 This regular class is suitable for beginning yoga practitioners and those who prefer an asana practice conducted at a slower pace. Each hour and half class draws primarily from a basic syllabus of over 70 classical yoga poses and also stretches into an expanded syllabus of another 80 poses. These include standing poses, twists, inversions, backbends and arm balances. The slower format encourages each student to move consciously and with greater awareness as they establish newly learned principles of alignment or reconnect to their practice. In addition to the physical practice, each class features some philosophical or literary aspect of yoga’s rich 3500 year history.
Kung Fu
Shaolin Kung Fu (yoga in action) originated in northern China roughly 1,500 years ago. Shaolin monks were growing tired and weak from their long days of meditation and were in deep need of physical and spiritual strengthening. Through the tutelage of Tamo, an Indian Buddhist monk, they learned the art of Qi Gong, or internal energy skill, which is a means of both sitting and movement based meditation. Tamo melded these techniques with strengthening techniques to build a new style of meditation and Qi Gong. This new form is known as Shaolin Kung Fu. Shaolin Kung Fu is known to be the first martial art in existence, and it is just that. It is an art; a mechanical way to express yourself physically, mentally, as well as spiritually through movement, breathing, and proper mind set. This is where your journey begins. Through your studies you will learn techniques and multiple series of movements known as forms that will test and strengthen your mind as well as your body. Unlike many common martial styles available to learn, Shaolin Kung Fu is a SELF disciplined art that focuses on the understanding of the human body and the flow of universal energy known as Qi (’chi‘). It focuses more on precision and alignment, than brute force to overcome your obstacles, therefore making it easier to learn for everyone! Young and old, males and females, the conditioned and the “not so conditioned.” Although it is a very applicable form of martial self defense, Shaolin is more widely known for its beauty. The flowing movements combined with speed and internal power make it ideal for those that are interested in the ART portion of martial arts. It is also a great means of gaining strength and LEAN muscle mass, as well as flexibility and longevity. Though Shaolin Kung Fu is a great path to self expansion, as well as mental and physical awareness, it is not the only way. It is simply one direction, one door, one path to self exploration and self improvement. Please join us, and allow us to open that door for you, so you can see the beauty that is Shaolin Kung Fu.
