New to Yoga?

Yoga can reduce stress, help you to get in great shape, reduce stress, and improve your energy levels.

You do not need to be flexible, athletic, or able to quiet your mind. You simply need the desire to show up and do your best.

Yoga is a process. Be consistent in your practice. Be patient and compassionate with yourself.

New Student Guide

  1. Look through our current class schedule, An Intro series is the best way to start your yoga journey. All Levels class is faster paced but still accessable for new students if that is what will fit into your schedule. Let the teacher know you are new to the practice. Remember every student in class was new at one point!read class descriptions, and find a begginers or introductory class date & time.
  2. Arrive 5-10 minutes early. Always check in at the front desk – Once inside the Yoga rooms please observe silence. Our tea lounge is a wonderful place to mingle & talk with fellow students.
  3. Practice on an empty stomach. Do not eat 2-3 hours prior to yoga practice. Juice or fruit are OK if you need quick energy before class. Drink plenty of water prior to class.
  4. Dress appropriately. Wear comfortable, form-fitting workout clothing. Layers help to adjust for temperature changes during and after class.
  5. Purchase a yoga mat. Having your own mat supports your commitment to your practice and ensures its cleanliness. Mats and towels can be rented for $1.
  6. Remove your shoes before entering the studio. Leave your shoes in a cubby in the studio lobby. This preserves the sacred nature of the studio space, we also prefer all items that are not necessary for yoga are left in the cubbies. We lock our studio doors at the start of each class.
  7. Turn off your cell phone. This enhances your experience and is a polite gesture to your fellow students.
  8. Attend 1 Introductory series or begginers Yoga class. An Intro series is the best way to start your yoga journey. All Levels class is faster paced but still accessable for new students if that is what will fit into your schedule. Let the teacher know you are new to the practice. Remember every student in class was new at one point!
  9. Notify the teacher of injuries or medical conditions. This helps the teacher know how to assist you and give you modifications.
  10. Practice as often as possible, 4-5 times per week for maximum benefit. 2-3 times per week will show improvement for most students within three months.
  11. Support Your Practice, by allowing yourself to experience a Private yoga lesson. Spend an hour with an expert teacher and have them cater the practice to fit your needs. Take these tips into a group class so you can flow like the rest of them!
